Mansa musa was a very wealthy African king, who, in fact, was so rich that he is said to be the richest person to ever live! In 1324, he made a very famous Hajj, or pilgrimage, to Mecca. On his way to Mecca, he stopped by Cairo and gave away so much gold that he caused inflation that wasn't fixed for 12 years. His kingdom, Mali, was the center of education, arts, and commerce. Mansa Musa also made the Djinguereber Mosque, which is still standing to this day!
